Melbourne at First Sight

Spent three days in Melbourne just before New Year’s and it was an absolutely wonderful trip filled with cultural, gastronomic, and architectural treats. We stayed at Sofitel, situated at the end of the beautiful Collins Street, where the view of the city from the rooms and the club lounge are stunning especially on clear sunny days. I loved coming back for tea time at the lounge–it is the perfect respite for in between walks and their cookies and macarons are satisfyingly delicious!

Melbourne feels like Wellington, but on a much bigger, grander scale. The little laneways, street art, and unconventional structures lend an atmospheric, relaxed, and artistic vibe throughout the city centre which we explored mainly on foot. There wasn’t a moment while strolling that I was not in awe. And my mind is begging for a return to explore more and perhaps venture out to the suburbs, hopefully at a time where cafes are not on their holiday break. We flew to Sydney for another few days in Australia to ring in 2017. It was, needless to say, such a memorable and fantastic time.
